There Are Many Obstacles...How Do I Get There?

The year began when my childhood pastor was imprisoned for child molestation; a hometown hidden secret that was taboo to discuss, but unfortunately true. The exposure, however, created a rippling effect in my community and family bringing decades of buried hurts floating to the surface.

More than ever before, we live in a time that brings us face-to-face with our own mortality. Like a tattered ship tossed to and fro on a stormy sea, 2020 has introduced winds of tragedy and waves of disaster in epic proportion.

The year began when my childhood pastor was imprisoned for child molestation; a hometown hidden secret that was taboo to discuss, but unfortunately true. The exposure, however, created a rippling effect in my community and family bringing decades of buried hurts floating to the surface. Just two weeks later, my grandmother, passes away. She was the only grandparent that I had ever known. Her transition rocked me to the core. I was casual about visits home because I believed that we had more time than we did. A few weeks later, Kobe Bryant, then the COVID 19 pandemic, Breyonna Ahmaud, and George – Now Jacob. By June, I was furloughed from my dream job and then the whole company collapsed. I was baffled. I thought to myself “How does a whole career disappear overnight?”

Then this happened & Then That Happened & now the sudden death of Chadwick Boseman at the age of 43. Who is to say what will happen tomorrow?

What waves have risen up so high that you feel as if you may drown? What storm has suddenly come into your life and thrown you off balance?

Despite all of these things that we face there is hope.

We will make it to the shore. Plant your feet and pull yourself in. You will not drown and you will not be overwhelmed in this season of life. You will not be torn apart by the chaotic winds that attempt to knock you down. You will weather the storm and reach the shore. Even if your boat is torn apart, you will reach the shore.

“He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first…The rest were to get there on planks or on other [broken] pieces of the ship. In this way, everyone reached land safely.” Acts 27:44 NIV

We are here for a purpose. I am confident, now more than ever, that You and I will not leave this earth a day before that purpose has been fulfilled. It is this very moment in time and space that is equipping you and I to achieve all that we are designed to fulfill. Sometimes, even our handicaps can be our boarding passes to destiny. Whether you are first to dive overboard and swim to shore, or whether you arrive last by floating on the broken pieces of the ship - You will get there.

Be Encouraged!

What's Got to Grow: I can be a very private and guarded person, but lately I've experienced break-through in simply Being Vulnerable. It doesn't happen often, but that's an area that I want to continue to grow in by intentionally opening my life to others.

What's Got to Go: #Solongbyebye Complaining. There is so much to be grateful for. May my words always be seasoned with salt and grace.
